Whether you are a (co-, foster-, grand-, step-) parent or a teacher...
The Caring Discipline approach provides researched-based, yet simple guidelines, tools, and practical examples that explain specific ways to help you feel in control of the adult/child relationship so both adult and child will feel respected, secure, and loved. Appropriate for children ages 2-18.
Our curriculum is based on the book, Caring Discipline: Practical Tools For Nurturing Happy Families and Classrooms by JoAnne Nordling, M.S., M.Ed., an evidence-informed approach to parenting and classroom discipline based on Abraham Maslow's philosophy of human nature and the principle of disciplining children with love and respect, as well as on the works of Carl Rodgers, Rudolph Dreikurs, Haim Ginott, Eric Berne, and Alice Miller.
Now in its fifth edition, this highly acclaimed approach to discipline is a distillation of JoAnne Nordling's 40+ years of experience as a parent, teacher and school counselor. It is an approach which has been highly successful within a broad range of socio-economic and cultural groups.

"...It is the most intelligent and clearly written book on children’s behavior that I have ever read.... This book has become a powerful and intelligent guide for dialoguing about our children’s behavior and development...When conflicts arise between children, we employ the problem-solving techniques that Ms. Nordling so clearly describes. It isn’t long before our children are beginning to learn what it means to care about and live in this world with other people."
-Michele R. Miller, M.Ed., Director of the Garden's Noise Preschool, Portland, Oregon
